Our Foundation
The Nomsa Manaka Foundation is not merely a non-profit company; it is a movement of courage in motion, built on the extraordinary life and unshakable spirit of a legend: Nomsa Manaka.
From pioneering African contemporary dance on international stages to her defiant survival of Stage 4 ovarian cancer, Nomsa Manaka has proven that "Dance is a prayer" and the world is her stage for social transformation.
This foundation fuses her dual passion — the preservation and promotion of indigenous South African dance culture and her powerful mission to use dance as a therapeutic tool for cancer survivors. The Foundation is a dynamic, business-sexy investment in human potential and cultural heritage, transforming fear into movement and pain into power.

Our Founder
Nomsa Manaka was a pioneer. Born with the rhythm of Africa in her soul, she became one of South Africa's most celebrated contemporary dancers and choreographers — a woman who spent her entire life using movement to speak truth to power, to heal, and to celebrate the full beauty of African identity.
Nomsa Manaka's journey from an acclaimed dancer and choreographer to a two-time cancer survivor — who literally danced her way through chemotherapy — provides an unparalleled, authentic foundation for this organization.
She performed on stages across the world, bringing the heartbeat of Africa to international audiences. Her work was not performance alone — it was activism, healing, and profound cultural pride compressed into every step.
When faced with cancer, Nomsa danced through her diagnosis. She used movement as her medicine, as her declaration that she was still here, still alive, still breathing fire. The Foundation is her living tribute.
Our Purpose
A world where indigenous African art restores dignity, cultivates resilience, and where life — even after a cancer diagnosis — is lived with rhythm, purpose, and possibility.
To use dance, movement, and storytelling as a catalyst for emotional healing, promote indigenous African dance globally, and build a strong, empowered community for people affected by cancer and youth.
Core Identity
We celebrate and preserve indigenous African dance — from Zulu to Venda, Gumboot to contemporary fusion. Dance is our mother tongue and our gift to the world.
Through our Dancing Out of Cancer programme, we walk alongside patients and survivors, using movement to restore body confidence, reduce anxiety, and inspire recovery.
We build empowered communities through free and subsidised workshops, youth academies, and wellness sessions that foster mental health and social connection.
